(AP) — In a story March 15 about a statewide appointment in California, The Associated Press reported based on information from the California state Senate that Lizbeth Mateo was the first person living in the U.S. illegally to receive a statewide appointment. Gov. Jerry Brown in 2016 appointed to a state board a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which gives protection from deportation to people brought the U.S. illegally as children.
